Celebrity Wedding Trend – Renewal of Vows

This weekend Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony renewed their wedding vows for the 2nd time. The couple, who got married in 2004, and then renewed their vows in 2008, have done it all again in a big ceremony on Saturday June 5 at their Hidden Hills, California estate.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are among celebrities, like Heidi Klum & Seal, Nick Canon & Mariah Carey, Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott all taking part in this wedding trend. The question is are we going to be seeing more couples renewing their vows rather than just the traditional wedding? And what makes couples tie the knot for the 2nd and 3rd time, or in the case of Heidi and Seal, every year?

In the case of celebrities there are numerous reasons why they might want to jump on the ‘vow renewal’ band wagon and these include: quieting rumours of an impending split, gaining extra publicity and helping to boost flagging ratings of a show, but for those in the noncelebrity world what are the rules around this type of thing? The Knot suggests that it isn’t appropriate to renew vows too soon or too often and maybe look at sticking to major anniversaries. There might be a variety of reasons a non-celebrity couple would look at renewing their vows such as the chance to have the luxury wedding they were unable to afford the first time around, or maybe it is to celebrate the end of a particularly hard period in their life and their ability to come through it together.

Whatever the reason it is certainly a growing trend and as is often the case, if Hollywood think its okay then it doesn’t take long for the rest of us to follow suit.
